Artists We Admire

Hey everybody!

We here at the IDP hope you’re having an absolutely delightful day! We wanted to take a minute to tell you about our ongoing Instagram series called “Artists we Admire”. This series aims to bring artists who inspire us to your feeds and your attention; they deserve it! Primarily dedicated to BIPOC women and non-binary folx, the series has, to date, included poets, animators, YouTube creators, visual artists, podcasters, comedians, actors, models, fashion designers, photographers, and musicians.

The artists we’ve featured so far are: Warsan Shire, Kat Blaque, Jenny Yang, Kenturah Davis, Nyome Nicholas - Williams, Mia Ghogho, and Bri Blvck. Each Wednesday, the series will continue! If you have any artists in your life you think the world should know about, please feel free to use the Contact Us button on the homepage of this website and let us know all about them! We appreciate each and every one of you so much.

If you don’t know the above artists, go check out their websites, YouTube accounts, wikipedia pages, photo shoots, Spotify accounts, gallery information–many of these accounts can be found compiled on our Instagram @invisiblediscoproductions–whatever you can find; it will be well worth your time, we can promise you that.

If this series appeals to you, and ESPECIALLY if you don’t know many or any of the above names, go check out a book called “This is What I Know About Art” by Kimberly Drew. Purchase it at a Black-owned bookstore and discover some amazing artists who deserve your support.

As we head into a new month, please remember that Black Lives don’t stop mattering because you’re seeing fewer hashtags on your social media. Remember that the algorithms of many of these sites are designed by capitalists who rely upon the racist systems which are upheld when common people feel alone. Remember that you are not alone. Remember that people are still protesting. Remember that you can participate however you feel comfortable, whether it be by going to protests, donating your time or your money to the cause, signing petitions, VOTING, volunteering to sign people up to vote, the list goes on and on, and all it requires is googling the question “how can I fight for justice” or going to https://blacklivesmatter.carrd.co . Remember that you can check your privilege by pushing beyond your comfort zone in this fight. Remember to engage in meaningful discourse and to take care of yourself. Remember that if you don’t know enough about a topic to engage in such discourse, it’s good to say so! Remember that if you find yourself not knowing, it’s good to take the initiative to learn!

Remember that we are here for you. If you ever want or need anything from any of us here at the Disco, please reach out and let us know! We will do anything and everything we can for you.

All our love,

The Team
